"Finish Trial,"[1] also referred to as "Start Grid #2 (Time Attack & Battle),"[2][3] is a recurring theme composed by Kenta Nagata for Mario Kart 64 that, contrary to its name, is actually heard when beginning a time trial. The theme itself consists of only a single chord repeated three times, along with a drum roll.

Mario Kart: Super Circuit

The Start Grid theme in Mario Kart: Super Circuit is an arrangement of "Finish Trial." While its rhythm is slightly altered, it still consists of a single chord repeated three times along with a drum roll, and it serves the same purpose.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, an arrangement of "Luigi Raceway," titled "Luigi Circuit," can be played on the Mario Circuit stage. The beginning of the arrangement features the "Finish Trial" fanfare. This arrangement returns in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, now titled "Luigi Raceway," where it can be played on the same stage, and in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, now titled "Luigi Raceway - Mario Kart 64," where it can be played on any Super Smash Bros.-series and Mario Kart-series stage.
